Megan's Story:

My fitness journey began in September of 2015. I had reached a point where I didn’t like how unhealthy I had become. It was also at that time that I started nursing school and began to learn the negative impact unhealthy eating and not exercising can have on a body. I knew that I needed to make a change, so I looked to the WAC Staff to help me.

When I made the decision to start, I turned to Pam at WAC Greenfield. Pam was my very first Trainer, and she helped me address my physical—and more importantly emotional—road blocks. She gave me the encouragement to make fitness goals and the tools to reach them. Through exercising and dietary changes, I started to make progress.

I never considered myself a runner, but I had a treadmill at home, so I set a goal to run one mile. One mile became two, and before I knew it, I was signing up for 5Ks and loving it. It was after running a few 5Ks that I set my goal on a half-marathon. It turned out that I am—   and always was—a runner, and like my first mile, soon that half-marathon became a full marathon, which has been the biggest milestone for me.

Motivation can be difficult, but the thing that keeps me going is my pride in how I look and feel now that I’m healthy. I don’t ever want to go back to how I was in September 2015, so I set small goals to push myself. Now I’m training for my second marathon and aiming to shave an hour off of my time. By focusing on a new goal, I push myself in my training and put all my energy into accomplishing it.

I wouldn’t have been able to reach my goals without the help I’ve had from the amazing staff at the WAC. They have truly helped shape who I’ve become, and I am incredibly thankful for the words of encouragement or kick in the butt right when I needed it the most. After training with Pam, she introduced me to Joe; we clicked on our very first session. He motivates me every day and pushes me to a physical and mental level that I never thought I could reach. With my newfound love of running, I joined Maddy’s famous Treading class, and of course I was hooked. Maddy is my running rock and has been an amazing training partner for marathons. I look forward to beating even more new goals with their help.

Megan’s Advice:

Never give up, always keep going, never look back. There will always be setbacks, but the important thing is to keep focusing on your goals and push through.
