Based on a Wisconsin state order, all WAC locations require face masks or coverings indoors for everyone ages 5 and older. For tips on working out in a face covering, view our article on How to Wear a Mask During Your Workout. For our recommendations on face masks, view our Favorite Exercise Masks.
Face masks must be worn over the nose and mouth.
Individuals who are unable to wear a face mask due to a medical condition must wear a face shield. If you do not have a mask or face shield, the WAC can provide one for you to use.
Face coverings or shields must be worn in all fitness spaces, including the fitness floor, group exercise rooms, locker rooms and all other common areas.
Masks or face shields are not required in the following conditions:
- When swimming or showering
- Instructors who are teaching a class, provided they are at least 6 feet apart
- While eating or drinking
- While outside, must remain at least 6 feet apart
- Sauna or Steam Rooms
- While playing racquetball or tennis, but must be worn while not actively playing
The City of Milwaukee has additional details on mask wearing outdoors. While at the Downtown location, a mask should also be worn outdoors anytime an individual is within 6 feet of another person who is not a member of their immediate household.
